2005 Australia Post NSW/ACT Small Business of the Year
Saturday 15 October was a memorable night that unquestionably marked the most exciting event for Platinum Electrical on the 2005 calendar. Held at the stunning Sofitel Wentworth Sydney, the Australia Post Small Business Awards gala dinner was an exciting evening for all finalist companies involved.
As Australia Post’s way of recognising excellence in small business, the annual awards were sponsored by NRMA Business Insurance and Optus and supported by the NSW Department of State and Regional Development and the NSW State Chamber of Commerce.
With seven award categories including Business Growth & Management, Marketing, Import and Export, Technology, Customer Service, Your Choice and Getting started, hundreds of small businesses throughout NSW and ACT entered the awards program with the top 3 finalists from each category invited to the gala dinner to announce the winners.
As part of our finalists’ $9,000 promotional pack, photographers and film crew spent a day at Platinum Electrical’s office prior to the gala dinner. Video footage and photos were used during the gala dinner and have been given to us for future marketing and promotional efforts. Employment of an HR company was also included in the promotional package, which saw articles written in many local papers about Platinum Electrical and its success in the Australia Post Small Business Awards.
The gala dinner was a night full of excitement, nerves, tears and loud cries of ‘we won’. Known by fellow guests as the loud young electrical company, onlookers were genuinely happy to see the ‘young-uns’ win the night. Earlier in the evening, we won our category of Business Growth & Management walking away with a trophy, framed copies of Joshua Nicholls’ face on genuine Australia Post stamps and a $5,000 cash prize. As the evening drew to a close, the category winners were all in the running to be awarded the overall winner as the 2005 Australia Post NSW/ACT Small Business of the Year. With much tension and butterflies in our stomachs in the last few seconds leading up to the announcement, Platinum Electrical was awarded the overall winner, walking away with more trophies, stamps with Josh’s face on them and a $15,000 cash prize.
As emphasised in all his speeches throughout the night, managing director Joshua Nicholls says that this win is for the team!
